The Serra Foundation is a family owned company based in Barcelona, Spain. The company is committed to development ecologically significant products for use with animals in veterinary care and in competition. Their testing is cruelty free and they have a policy of using non-animal materials for production.
A particular point of interest is that the 3D Technology, which is the Trademark of the Cal Rei product range, was originally designed for use in the space program over 20 years ago, essentially for the filling of the astronauts seats due to its unique properties of air flow, anti crush, anti bacterial and anti fungal benefits.
In the early 2000’s (15-17 years ago) Cal Rei took this technology and started to test it for use with animals, specifically dogs and horses. What they found through extensive trials and testing was that it was hugely beneficial to the health of the animal in terms of heat and sweat control, skin condition and muscle health.
Later in 2009, Laia who is CEO of Cal Rei Luxe in Spain, had an unfortunately situation where her dog was very ill and had to stay in the veterinary hospital for extended periods of time. The dog developed sores from laying on the pads provided.. Laia took one of the saddle cloths into the hospital and put it in the cage for the dog to lay on. The sores immediately cleared up and the dog started to make a faster recovery due to the improved conditions of comfort, but also because of the anti bacterial benefits of the fabric. Because of the way the 3D spacer technology works, there is constant airflow and the material cannot physically stick to itself or form a hard area. This improved the condition of the skin as well as muscle tissue, again aiding speedy recovery, and from this was born the pet care range.
Cal Rei was the first to use this technology in this way, and it has been widely accepted and respected by the equine and veterinary community.
